Aligning Healthcare Providers and Patients

6a3a81bb-d2b1-400e-ba99-3cf9b57b91f2

The secret to better care in hospitals is about aligning providers to patients. The question of course, is how?  The way we do it is by creating an immersive environment based upon data. The end result is that people change. The ideas that surround them, help connect people in a deep, emotional way. –@gapingvoid

What I love about this idea, what I find powerful about it… is that it’s premised on the belief that “people change”.

If you’ve spent any time in the healthcare trenches you instinctively know this is a novel concept.

Why? Because the level of bureaucracy, cynicism, and apathy in healthcare is the highest of any industry.

Healthcare is in dire need of change, specifically a culture change. No wonder listening to the guys from

No wonder listening to the guys from healthUX @gapingvoid lead the conversation with empathy, better experiences, and deeper connections between healthcare providers and patients fills you with hope and wonder about the future in this space.

The good people in the industry need to hear this, they need to feel the energy around it if they want a change in culture.

The focus must be on the people with the right attitude and on patients and their families!

How To Harness The Awesome Power of Gratitude

gratitude

There are 3 questions I ask myself every morning before I start my day:

  • What am I excited and pumped about?
  • What am I grateful for?
  • What must I accomplish today?

But #2…” what am I grateful for?”  is my favorite and the one that gives me the most energy!

Now a point of caution, when you are counting your blessings. try not to do it by comparing your life with the misfortune of others.

This is often done unconsciously and it doesn’t make you a bad person, but it’s unhealthy and unproductive.

For example: “I’m so lucky I didn’t end up like so and so … or,  I’m so grateful for not being like that guy or that girl!”

Be truly grateful for the things you’ve accomplished without comparison or judgment.

Being grateful is being sincere. When you acknowledge your reality and genuinely give thanks to a higher power, whatever it is you believe in, you are humbling yourself.

You are saying: “I didn’t accomplish or get here my myself”, which means you know you are not alone and you’ll have company the rest of the journey.

I’m grateful for my parents, my wife, my boys, my brother and sisters and nephews… my friends, my business partners, and clients.

I’m grateful for my health, my success and my failures.

I’m grateful for waking up every day, and I’m grateful for things to come.

Being grateful does not mean you accept your limitations, it means you are at peace with yourself now, but always vigilant and ready to evolve and transform.

Being grateful is living in the moment, engaging with the here and the now, and there is nothing more powerful than being present.

Stay focused, lead, and be great!

Happy Thanksgiving!

My Top Five Favorite Memorial Day Stories From Around the Web

Memorial Day - Venmark Media

Is remembering better than thanking?

Both are verbs so action is required, but which one would have more meaning for american servicemen and women and their families.

I don’t know, I’m not a soldier. I don’t know what is like to feel the pride of having served or the pain to having lost friends and family as a consequence.

This is my way of remembering, it’s also my way of thanking you.

Here are five posts that not only touched me but educated me on what the meaning of this day represents for so many of us!

Enjoy 🙂

Do You Focus On Client’s Negatives or Positive Solutions During a Presentation?

Positive Solutions Focus - Claudio Alegre

“If you’re pitching your product to corporates, should you highlight their negatives, such as bad reviews on TripAdvisor for a travel company, or focus on positive solutions in order to explain true product benefits?”

This was an actual question on Quora.com I bumped into this morning. I thought it was a terrific question by the way, one that will come up time and time again if you make presentations to sell your products or services.

Here’s my answer –

[ I would approach it from a general viewpoint, yet addressing the issue:

“…one of the many special benefits this “widget” provides is reducing the customer service calls turn-around-time. A huge and usually justified source of customer discontent in over 90% of companies in your industry. This is currently costing your peers over 1 Billion in repeat business. Whomever can fix this issue the fastest, will most likely emerge as the market leader”

I usually stay away from indirectly blaming or pointing sticky fingers to the very people I’m trying to sell my services to.

Beside, many times the real issue is not what they think it is anyway. Usually the issue they tell you they are having is a symptom of the real problem. So if they bring up their pseudo-problems to the table, sure address them in the same way, but be empathetic in your approach and believable in your solution regardless.

When you focus on commonalities, benefits and solutions you can bring your point across in a more constructive and in a “let’s-get-you-in-front-of-the-pack” kind of way. ]

What would your approach be?

Would you focus on positive solutions to make a sale or would you point out defects and weak links to sell such solutions?

Why The “Thank God It’s Friday” Syndrome Is Keeping You From Being Wildly Successful!

Thank God it's Friday SyndromeThe TGIF mindset may seem to most people like a harmless thing to say, or actually look forward to. We simply hear everyone yelling it, we do the same, and we are now part of that tribe!

Can you picture Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Tim Ferris, Sam Walton, Richard Koch, Jordan, Phelps, Woods … Saying: “Thank God It’s Friday!”?

I mean …even radio stations have a 5 O’clock horn letting you know you are now “FREE”.  You have 2 days to roam the country side, let some steam off and run wild until Monday when you HAVE to come back to your self made prison for the next five days, for what they decide to pay you btw, and this you will do 72% of your God-given time for the rest of your life.

Are you kidding me!!?

This may not be you, but if you desperately look forward to Fridays 5 pm, see Wednesday as “hump day” and Monday is a day from Hell …then my contention is you are not very happy with your chosen business or profession, you may not admit this in public, but you are not a very happy guy or gal.

If you see the weekend as a temporary escape route, a time to unwind, unplug and have a chance to be “YOU” at least for 28% of your time, then I think you may need to re-evaluate your life and ask yourself a simple question: Why Am I Doing This?

The main reason you are not happy is not because you have to do it all over again on Monday, but because you are not in control of your life, someone or something else is …and WE … YOU were not meant to live that way!

If you are aware of this… Good for you! The question then is: “What are you going to do about it …How can you be “YOU” 7 days a week?”

So get busy working on a Plan where you control your time, because if you control your time …you control your life.

If you got upset at reading this, well you probably didn’t read this far … But GOOD if you did get upset! You are supposed to, because there is no hope or cure for those that feel nothing.

My advice is, take some time to think about your time in a different way, try owning it for a change, understand how precious it is, because it’s limited. So how do you want to spend it?

How do you want to spend it doing the things you want, deserve and were meant to be doing!

Take care my friends 🙂

Make Yourself Irresistibly Wanted and Shamefully Well Paid for It!

Regardless of what your chosen profession, business or employment is. You can make yourself ultra-influential any time you wish it!!Claudio Alegre - Marketing Style

Developing a Profitable Marketing style simply means becoming influential.

With influence comes opportunity, money, relationships that last, plus a lifestyle of abundance.

This topic got me thinking about all the big names in business and marketing  I’ve learned from over the years.

Not only the famous ones, but also guys that you may not have even heard of unless you are a marketing geek like me.

But even household names like Steve Jobs, Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, Oprah Winfrey, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates… etc

What do these ultra-successful business people and entrepreneurs, whom by the way, the best of them excel in marketing…What makes them so successful at being irresistible?

How can you achieve the same level of irresistibility?

I believe it comes down to idea sharing (being genuine), personal experience and service (leadership) and conscious style building (modest self promotion).

There are a million Realtors, Financial Planners, Attorneys, Consultants and Fitness Professionals out there…  right?

Are not all of them at the end of the day selling the same thing in the same area from the same supply and to the same demand pool?

Name me one product or service out there where there’s only one supplier for it… Not likely!

Your style is the way you do things … the proverbial secret sauce, is in essence “YOU”, Your Ideas, and the way you communicate and execute them!

But how do you develop your style if you lack mojo?

Good news!

You’ve always had it!!

You were born with a unique personality and character signature.

“In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, shaped and perfect in attitude and in action.  I have only to hew away the rough walls that imprison the lovely apparition to reveal it to the other eyes as mine see it.”

-Michelangelo

Chisel away the rough edges and your true self and awesomeness will reveal itself… You’ll be irresistible in your own unique way!

All you need to do then is to enhance and develop that unique signature and style in your business or profession.

I always laugh when young people (gen Y’ers) tell me, –“but Claudio I don’t know how to sell anything”

Well, You date don’t you?

What do you think dating or the process of getting someone to go out with you is?

That’s the biggest sales job ever…!

Follow these simple steps and start making yourself irresistible to your friends, clients and prospects:

Have a “renaissance approach” to your marketing style process – In other words forget “always be closing” that’s archaic old thinking and doesn’t apply to today’s market place. Instead,“always be learning… and doing”. Be interested in people first!

You can only develop a style by being yourself. Stop wanting to be someone else – Remember being different doesn’t necessarily mean being first, at least initially. You have to work hard regardless, but it’s how you work that makes the difference. Your ideas and how you execute them is what makes you “YOU”.

Read a 2 books a month, and Listen to 1-3 podcast from someone successful in your industry – You have to reprogram your way of thinking often. So Yes! Brainwash yourself as often as you can… Challenge your theories, put them to the test. The best way of doing this is to learn from others that have something worthwhile to offer and that have results. Join a mastermind group, get a couple of mentors, take time to work on your personal growth.

Make a list right now of the things you do that you think make you unique from your peers – be honest with yourself and when in doubt ask your friends and clients for feedback. I like this approach:  “…what worked, and in your view what can I do differently?” If nothing stands out, then that’s your first clue!

Play to your strengths – focus on the things you excel at. Keep your weaknesses going to the gym yes, but your focus should always be on that which already makes you not only good, but great. That is what’s going to make you influential and incredibly productive!

Your style will evolve naturally and unbeknownst to you at first. Others may notice before you do. Then as you become aware of how you are perceived by others, you start to have an active and conscious input into the process.

By this time you have a clear picture of Who you are, and What degree of influence you can exert in your business network.

Does this help?

Do you think developing an irresistible and influential leadership style could catapult your personal brand onto a global stage?
